Frequently Asked Questions About Stump Grinding

What is stump grinding and why is it necessary?

Stump grinding removes tree stumps by mechanically grinding them into small wood chips, preventing pest infestations and allowing for new landscaping or construction.

Is stump grinding safe for my lawn and surrounding plants?

Our equipment is carefully operated to protect your lawn and surrounding vegetation, with minimal disturbance beyond the stump area. We use specialized grinding equipment to remove tree stumps below ground level, turning them into wood chips.

What happens to the wood chips after grinding?

Wood chips can be left on site as mulch or removed upon request for an additional fee, depending on your preference and landscaping plans.

How long does the stump grinding process take?

The duration depends on the stump size, type of wood and location.

What about underground utilities on my property?

If you agree to our quote, we will then contact Julie (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators) to locate underground utilities, they will locate gas, electric, water, sewer and telecommunications lines. We must call on your behalf, it's the law, we will not provide our services without the utilities being marked. After the utilities are located and marked we will schedule your stump grinding service to be done within 1 week.

I don't have any utilities in my back yard, can you just skip calling Julie to have the utilities located?

No, never. We are required by law to have the utilities located prior to starting any stump grinding project, we will not break the law. Additionally, you may have other things underground in your back yard that a utility locate will not find, such as invisible pet fence, an electrical line, underground sprinkler system, water line, old phone or cable lines. We are only responsible and liable for marked underground utilities and nothing else.

What should I do to prepare for the day you arrive?

We just need about 20' area around the stump(s) clear of furniture, lawn decorations, etc. As a precaution, we ask that nobody be in the work area, please keep all adults, children and pets indoors. We cannot safely work with anyone in the vicinity.
